How it began

We met on a Tuesday, in the worst possible weather, at a friend's birthday neither of us wanted to attend. Donnel offered Princess his umbrella and then walked eleven blocks in the rain. She married him partly for that.

To our favourite people
We are bringing the people we love most to a stone villa above a Tuscan valley for two days in May — long lunches, longer dinners, and the two of us finally getting married in an olive grove.

Our Story
Eight years, three countries and one very persistent umbrella.
Two years later
The first trip
Our first holiday together was a week in Tuscany that we booked badly and loved completely — a hire car with no air conditioning, a village that closed at eight, and the best plate of pici either of us has eaten before or since.
The Destination
The Tuscan Countryside
An hour and a half south of Florence, the road stops climbing and the whole of southern Tuscany opens up beneath you. This is where we are getting married.
The valley
This corner of Tuscany is the landscape of the imagination — chalk hills, cypress lines, hill towns that have not changed their skyline in five hundred years. Casa Cornacchi sits right in the middle of it, which is a formal way of saying it is almost unreasonably beautiful.
The table
Pecorino from Pienza, pici cut by hand, wild boar, bitter greens, olive oil pressed within sight of the villa. Dinner in this part of Italy is not a course of events. It is the whole evening.
The pace
Nothing here is in a hurry, and neither should you be. Come a few days early if you can. Get lost on the white roads. Sit in a piazza and do absolutely nothing for an hour.
